Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson arrive in Vietnam for 'Kong' filming

Hollywood director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and his cast and crew including Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson arrived in Hanoi Thursday night to get ready for the filming of the new King Kong movie in Vietnam.
The team of more than 100 members traveled on one aircraft, with 20 tons of equipment transported on a separate plane.
"Kong: Skull Island” will film in various locations in Vietnam for five weeks, starting February 22.
Tom Hiddleston, another star of the movie, are expected to fly in later.
Nearly 300 tons of equipment have been shipped to Vietnam by sea over the past month. A technical team arrived in January to study the locations.
Filming will start at Trang An-Tam Coc, a complex of mountains and rivers in the northern province of Ninh Binh, before moving to the famous cave system Phong Nha-Ke Bang in the central province of Quang Binh, and finally Ha Long Bay.
Due to environmental concerns, the team decided not to film inside the world’s largest cave Son Doong as planned.

Director Vogt-Roberts and some crew members spent nearly two months in Vietnam at the end of last year surveying and selecting the locations.
He said the team was impressed by the primitive landscape unknown to the global audience.
The director said the surreal scenery will be perfect for the movie.
The new film is centered on King Kong’s origins and is set to hit theaters in March 2017.
Other filming locations are in Australia and Hawaii.

The movie has a budget of US$190 million, according to movie database IMDb.
A source from Vietnam’s culture and tourism ministry said around 10 percent of that will be spent on the filming in Vietnam.
A Quang Binh’s tourism official said the province has suggested the ministry negotiate with the producers to let the press and local officials visit the set to promote tourism.
